Ben Kimber

Ben Kimber is a journalist with Fairfax Media.

Since October 2012 he has worked at the Stawell Times-News and The Ararat Advertiser newspapers covering local politics and a whole range of issues that have concerned communities in those areas.

Born in Melton, Mr Kimber grew up in Stawell and was primary educated at St Patrick’s Primary School before completing his secondary education at Marian College in Ararat.

Mr Kimber studied a Bachelor of Arts at Deakin University from 2009 through to 2011 where he graduated with a degree in Journalism and Politics and Policy Studies.

During his studies Mr Kimber completed several internships including at the International Centre for Parliamentary Studies (ICPS) in London.

He has also interned at the Seven Network (Seven News and Sunrise), WIN Television (WIN News) and ABC (Television and Radio).
Mr Kimber has a long held interest in news and current affairs having completed work experience as a teenager at radio 3AW in Melbourne.

Away from work Mr Kimber is a keen traveller having visited more than 30 countries since 2009.

He has ventured to six of the world’s seven continents and highlights countries including the United Kingdom, Austria, Iceland and Peru as a few of his favourites.

Mr Kimber decided to apply for the YMCA Youth Parliament Press Gallery program in the hope he could expand his knowledge and gain a greater understanding of State politics. He views the program as a great opportunity, one that will provide him with both professional and personal benefits.
