In 2016 YMCA Victorian Youth Parliament will be supported by a parallel media and journalism program, the YMCA Victorian Youth Parliament Press Gallery.
This initiative is made possible through the financial support of the Victorian Government, Monash University’s School of Media, Film & Journalism, and the Victorian Parliamentary Press Gallery.
Applications were open to all young people in Victoria aged 18-25, and from the applicants, 14 passionate young journalists were selected to participate in the inaugural program.
The Youth Parliament Press Gallery journalists are provided with professional support throughout the program through a series of workshops facilitated by the key partners of the program, and ongoing support from experienced political journalists. The Youth Parliament Press Gallery will be covering this years Youth Parliament in much the same way the Victorian Press Gallery cover state Parliament.
Youth Parliament Press Gallery will be providing the wider community with up to date and in depth reporting of the stories of Youth Parliament.
Once a program known and respected locally, the YMCA Victorian Youth Parliament will reach a wider audience as the Youth Parliament Press Gallery journalists cover the Bills, debates, personal stories, and issues important to young Victorians.
